Medicos continues stir for hike

Hyderabad, Nov 10th: The agitation by the junior resident doctors, for an increase in their stipend, entered its second day on Tuesday. The doctors staged an hour-long demonstration in front of all the teaching hospitals. Apart from not co-operating in discharging Arogyasri duties, the junior doctors have threatened to boycott out-patient and emergency duties. Medical services in these hospitals were affected for more than an hour following the protest. The medicos burnt the effigy of Minister for Health Insurance P. Satyanarayana in protest against the statement that some political parties were behind the medics stir.

Dr. S. Nagesh, the convener of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJUDA) said that the demands have been forwarded to the state government. “We are told that the file is pending with the Pay Revision Commission”, he said. On an average, post-graduate doctors in other state were paid Rs 25,000 each per month. The Government was turning a blind eye to their long-pending demand, he claimed.
