Measures to keep tab on epidemic

Rajahmundry, July 9th: Medical and health authorities are initiating measures to control the spread of seasonal fevers including diarrhea, gastroenteritis, cholera and malaria on the onset of monsoon by supplying stocks of medicines and deputing medical teams at primary health centers in East Godavari. With the change of climatic conditions and rainfall most people are not having protected drinking water and who live in places where sanitation are likely become vulnerable to health hazards.

 

The district administration has reviewed arrangements to be taken up to avoid any outbreak of seasonal fevers in epidemic proportion in both the plain and agency areas of the district recently. Stocks of anti-epidemic drugs and saline bottles, chlorine tablets, ORS packets, bleaching powder and other requirements were dispatched to primary health centers. Administration is also taking measures to ensure supply of safe water to people in both panchayats and municipal areas.

 

Health authorities are asking people living in areas where protected drinking waster is not accessible to boil and cool water before drinking it. They advised to dissolve 0.5mg chlorine tablet in a potful of water. 80,000 medicated bed nets are distributed to tribals in the Agency. Rapid diagnostic test kits are also ready to conduct tests and get the results in a few minutes.
