Hyderabad, July 21st: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has come up with new idea to prevent ragging on campus. As a part of this it is making senior student’s protectors of juniors. Under this scheme each fresher will be assigned to the care of a senior student who has to look after the junior student’s welfare. This is the part of the JNTU venture to come up with new policies and measures to battle the menace of ragging. It is planning to review its current rules, regulations and existing anti ragging measures for this.
“The seniors can protect the juniors in case of ragging. We will work out this method in hostels too. We are planning to conduct counseling for the parents of seniors to monitor the behavior of their children”, said Dr. E. Saibaba Reddy, the registrar of JNTU. The university says it is looking at ragging as a “psychological” problem and is going to ask colleges to involve senior students too in the induction program held in the beginning of the academic year. Registrar is confident that if seniors are made in-charge of juniors, they will become their protectors.
