Hyderabad, Aug 9th: With majority of students opting for MBA courses in the web-based counseling, the managements of MCA colleges in the state have approached the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) requesting permission to convert MCA colleges into MBA colleges. About 93.61 percent of the total 2, 01,735 candidates qualified in the ICET and majority of them has opted for MBA courses. The state government conducts a uniform Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) for admission into these courses every year.
At present most of the MBA and MCA colleges are running on integrated campuses. With both the colleges located in the same premises, it became easy for the college managements to shift the courses. Most of the educational institutes which are seeking permission to turn MCA colleges into MBA colleges are those which are running on the integrated campuses. Last year 10,000 MCA seats remained vacant and this year the officials expect more than 25,000 seats to remain vacant. The AICTE has already given permission to convert 10 MCA colleges into MBA colleges and much more proposals are pending.
