Hyderabad, July 2nd: The management quota seats of MBBS in state private colleges are sold at Rs 50 lakh to 65 lakh each. The engineering seats in top colleges are found to be offered for as much as Rs 12 lakh for electronics and communication engineering and Rs 10 lakh for other branches, while the stipulated rate is Rs 92,500. Even the secondary grade colleges are demanding anything between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for an engineering seat.

Last year the government has served show cause notices to 21 colleges for irregularities in admissions under the management quota. But it failed to take any action against any of the erring colleges and approved such admissions later. The seats in IT (Information Technology) and computer science engineering (CSE) which used to attract the high prices earlier, are now pushed to bottom apparently because of a slowdown in the IT sector.

Several colleges are conducting educational seminars to increase awareness on professional courses. Many students and parents crowded the educational seminar held in Khairatabad this week. Though the fair aimed in creating awareness, it ended up as a sales counter for management seats.
