Hyderabad, Aug 21st: Out of the total 83,000 students who had skipped the engineering counseling in the first phase, only 1,746 students turned up for the Eamcet re-counseling. The officials were forced to conduct the re-counseling session as only 1.59 lakh students, out of the total qualified 2.42 lakh in Eamcet engineering stream attended the first phase of the counseling. The re-counseling was conducted from August 16 to 19 in about 50 counseling centers in all the districts.

The re-counseling has incurred an additional expenditure of nearly Rs 10 lakh. Eamcet officials expect colleges to face a crisis this year due to shortage of students while the total engineering seats in the state reached a national high of 2.4 lakh. Counseling officials said that this will not have much impact on the colleges as several might have opted for management quota seats. But the general secretary of AP Engineering Colleges Association fell that it will not be financially viable to run colleges if thousands of seats lie vacant.
