Hyderabad, Sep 24th: The EdCet counseling for admission into B.Ed courses ended in a positive note on Thursday. A large number of students showed interest in the B.Ed seats after a gap of several years. Only 6,000 seats remained vacant after the first phase of counseling, while nearly 16,000 seats were vacant after the first phase of counseling last year. This is all due to the reimbursement scheme extended by the government to EBCs (Economically Backward Classes) apart from the students of the reserved category. Officials are hopeful in filling all the vacant seats in the second phase.

Interestingly all the seats in the Osmania University region got filled up while several seats in the Andhra University and Sri Venkateswara University regions remained vacant. The state government is planning to conduct DSC (District Selection Committee) teacher recruitment exam every year for B.Ed students. This was said to be the reason why many are opting for B.Ed this year. The recent mega DCS recruitment drive to fill 52,000 teacher posts at one go has also attracted the students to pursue B.Ed.
