Hyderabad, July 12th: The Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy, decided to allot more seats under the management quota in professional colleges in the state. This is meant to pacify college managements whose demand for a fee hike was rejected by the government. The MCA, MBA, Pharmacy and B.Ed college managements will now have around 15,000 extra seats to make money from. In all there will be nearly 60,000 seats in engineering stream under management quota and 26,000 seats in MBA and MCA streams.
At present, an engineering seat under management quota is sold for amount ranging from Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh. For other streams the managements are demanding not less than Rs 1 lakh per seat. The government has rejected the demand of professional colleges to increase the fee, saying that the admissions and fee regulatory committee has not allowed it. However the truth is that the state does not want to increase the tuition fee since it has agreed to bear the fee of 60 per cent of students under the reimbursement scheme. This will impose a burden of Rs 2,500 crore.
