Kakinada, Jan 6th: As per the call given by "All India Motor Transport Congress", the lorry owners are organizing strike from past two days. The strike was more intensified with the active participation of mini trucks and goods vans along with the lorries. It is estimated that nearly 8,000 lorries and trucks have gone off the road in East Godavari District. The number will raise, if West Godavari also includes.
On the second day of the strike, the prices of the daily necessary commodities, vegetables and other commodities which have to come from far has increased considerably. Two wheeler owners are facing many problems with the non availability of the petrol at some outlets. Petrol bunk owners are displaying no stock boards, and the demand would increase more if the strike continues.
Farmers, whose cultivated products to be exported to other places are in a fear that they have to face huge loss if the strike continues for few more days. Coconut merchants and other business persons are alleging due to the stoppage of exports and imports in the district due to the strike.
Meanwhile, the district administration is making alternate arrangements for the transport of essentials and daily commodities. Collector, Gopala Krishna Dwivedi and SP Y. Nagi Reddy held talks with the lorry owners on Tuesday in the issue of permitting the transport of petroleum products along with the milk and water supplies.
