Local fisherman rescued 11 Sri Lankan’s

Kakinada, April 30th: Local fisherman rescued 11 Sri Lankan’s who lost their way while traveling from war-torn Mullaitivu to Rameswaram. Out of 21 people who started from Sri Lanka, 10 died on high seas because of starvation and the remaining were brought to Uppada coast about 16 Km from here. The victims were immediately shifted to Kakinada Government general hospital. Out of them the condition of three women was critical and were admitted in acute medical care wing.

 

The details were disclosed by a survivor, Ms Mary Joseph Benny.  She lost her husband and three sons during the journey and the bodies were thrown overboard. She expressed her gratitude to the fisher flock who saved them and also to hospital staff for providing good medial care. According to the district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi the survivors will be provided with all amenities including medical aid, food and clothing. After recovery they will be sent back to Rameswaram refugee camp in Tamilnadu.
