Life came to a Standstill -Downpour

Life came to a standstill for the people, who were unable to move out from their houses as the heavy shower that began late on Friday continued throughout day on Saturday without giving any pause in city. Low attendance was registered in educational institutions and many schools declared holiday for half-a-day due to the downpour. All the roads in the city including the major roads were under water, as there was no proper drainage system in the city. All the shops, establishments and cinema halls were closed. There were not many transactions in banks and the public movement was very less in government offices including the District Collectorate. In the last 24 hours, the District registered a total rainfall of 1,038.8 mm with an average rainfall of 17.3 mm. Kakinada urban and rural mandals registered the highest rainfall of 47.4 mm each, while Atreyapuram mandal registered the lowest rainfall of 3.4 mm during the day.
