Nearly 105 people fell ill after leakage in chlorine gas cylinder this Friday. Among them over 53 deaf and dumb students of Maharshi B.Sambarmurthy School for Deaf and Dumb fell ill after inhaling chlorine gas. This incident took place this Friday afternoon at an iron and steel scrap shop at Sambamurthynagar. Police and fire personnel immediately rushed to the spot and admitted the sick people to Kakinada general government hospital. Doctors said that their condition was out of danger and no one died in the leak. In between, a fire safety team from a fertilizer plant in the city came into action and diluted the gas.District fire officer, Mr.G.Yoseph, Deputy superintendent of police, Mr.B.Atchyuta Rao and Former MLA of Kakinada, Mr.V.Kondababu called on the admitted people at the hospital. According to Mr.Yoseph, Syed Khadar Basha has been running the iron scrap shop, Blue Star Steel and Old Iron, at the Sambamurthynagar for the last 30 years. The five police personnel who rushes to the spot for rescuing the sick people also fell ill due to gas, he added. People within half kilometer were evacuated. The police alerted the fire safety team of Nagarjuna Fertilizers Company Limited(NFCL). A fire safety team from the NFCL headed by Ganga Singh swung into action and diluted the gas.
