Kakinada, Feb 27th: Lepakshi craft bazaar-2009 was inaugurated in the town on Friday. Managing director of the handicrafts and handlooms society Mr. P. Venkata Ramayya has inaugurated the exhibition that was established at local Raja tank premises. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ramayya said that handicrafts and handlooms are the part of Indian tradition and culture and asked the masses to encourage the same. He said that items made by nearly 2 lakh weavers all over the state are placed in the exhibition. Items from kitchen to office desk are made available.

 

MD revealed that Lepakshi has earned nearly 52 crore Rs in the last year and now targeted to increase the income to 60 lakh this year. He also said that in order to encourage the weavers they were issuing old age pensions and insurance polices to them. This exhibition will be organized till 8th of March and weavers from 15 states will be participating. According to the organizers the bazaar is open to the public from 11am to 9pm all these 10 days. The exhibition cum sale is sponsored by Handicrafts Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Municipal commissioner Murthy, Lepakshi manager I.V Lakshmi Nath and others participated.
