Lankan fisherman arrested

Kakinada, Feb 24th: With in a gap of four days, 16 Srilankan fishermen were arrested by the marine police while venturing into the sea near the Kakinada port. Last year in the month of December nearly 34 fishermen where arrested and shifted to Visakhapatman by the coastal officers for remand. Later in this month on Feb 20, 6 were arrested and sent to remand. The coastal guard on Tuesday night at Nijampatnam port in Guntur district caught 10 fishermen and handed over them to marine police on Wednesday.

The marine police produced them in the special judicial first class magistrate court  and were further send to remand. The arrested fishermen were identified as Upul Shanta, Madusanka, Dilume, Charith, Shameera, Fresanne, Laxmana Perasa, Nisantamell, Newile and Sentane. Intelligence and Navy authorities took details from the fishermen and shifted them to Chanchalguda police station for remand.
