One of the busiest minor ports in the country, Kakinada Sea Port Limited (KSPL) has set the target of handling 13 million tonnes cargo by the end of 2010-11 and 20 millions by the end of year 2013-14.
In the previous year 2009-10, port could handle 10.42 million tonnes of cargo with only 717 vessels by crossing its target of 10 million tonnes with a growth rate of 33.3 % while that of last year's cargo was 7.8 million tonnes, said Chairman and Managing Director of the port KV Rao.
This wednesday while addressing the press people on the port premises he said the growth was the result of collective efforts of all the staff and the advanced infrastructure facility. He added that inorder to acheive the target set they were making all possible efforts including enhancement of infrastructure worth Rs.800Cr.
Mr.Rao also said that the future projects to be undertaken include the Port and Sembawang Shipyard Limited(Singapore) a joint venture, Sembmarine Kakinada limited(SKL) to establish and operate a marine repair facility to merchant vessels,offshore vessels and rigs. SKL would be developed with an investment of around $375 million in 3 phases over 3-5 years.
