Kakinada, Mar 24th: According to eye experts children accustomed of watching TV might need frequent changing of reading glasses for correcting their vision. District Programme Manager for the Society for Control of Blindness Dr P V Prasad said several such minor eye ailments were noticed during the screening of the hostel students under the 'Drushti' programme, first of its kind launched in East Godavari district.
The incidents of eye ailments among children could be attributed mostly due to the Vitamin 'A' deficiency, Dr Prasad told. He said under the 'Drushti' programme, 49,326 students of the welfare hostels in the district were being screened and necessary treatment, including corrective surgery, provided free of cost. Already 45,588 students were screened of whom 2,703 were found out to be suffering from various eye diseases he added.
