Kakinada, Nov 19th: Kakinada Sea Port Limited (KSPL), a deep water port here, is busy with the construction of a new berth as part of its port expansion activities for catering to the needs of multiple vessels. The Rs 100 crore worth of berth is being built by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, a leading Indian constriction firm. Leading firms like Reliance, Cairn Energy and GSPC are engaged in the exploration and exploitation of gas reserves in the Krishna-Godavari basin.
The KSPL is the only and nearest port for these companies for their business activities. To provide rapid and state-of-the -art type of services in the future, the KSPL has engaged in constructing the new berth. At present, the KSPL's main jetty comprises of four cargo handling berth and one off shore vessel berth. Four ships can be positioned at a time at the main Jeety. KSPL chief executive officer said that the new berth was estimated to be completed in 20 months.
