Hyderabad, Sep 21st: The counseling for the two premier national level engineering entrance examinations, IIT-JEE and AIEEE is likely to be integrated from the next academic year 2010-11. However both the exams will be held separately. The move was made after the Union Ministry of HRD suggested the officials of IIT-JEE and AIEEE to explore the options for conducting common counseling to ensure that seats do not fall vacant after the admissions are over. The ministry has also convened a meeting in New Delhi with the directors of IITs and the officials of CBSE, which conducts the AIEEE exam.
The officials said the effort will solve the problem of a number of seats going vacant after the selection procedure is over. Many students seeking admission in the best institutes appear for both the counseling. Hundreds of seats in elite engineering institutes such as IITs, NITs, IIITSs, deemed universities and other Center sponsored institutions remain vacant due to non coordination among the counseling officials of IIT-JEEE and AIEEE.
For the first time this year, the officials of IIT_JEE and AIEEE were forced to conduct multiple rounds of counseling to fill up the seats. With the students frequently changing their options while selecting colleges in both the counseling sessions, the seat matrix changed constantly.
