JNTU to educate NRI students

Kakinada, May 29th: With the official request made by TANA (Telugu Association of Northern America), the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada authorities are likely to provide educational facilities to the non-resident Indians of Andhra Pradesh in the US. A team from university led by the vice-chancellor, Prof. Allam Apparao and the director of foreign university and alumni affairs, Prof. P. Udaya Bhaskar will visit Chicago to attend TANA meet to be conducted from July 2 to 4. The team will finalise the deal to start admissions for NRIs for the academic year 2009-10.

 

In wake of the economic recession and due to high expense of education in US, TANA members want their children to continue education in Andhra Pradesh. The secretary of TANA, Mr. Mohan Nannapaneni, wrote to JNTU-K, Seeking its cooperation for extension of educational facilities. Under this program 15 percent extra seats in JNTU-K would be filled with the NRIs. The fee structure will be four to five times higher than locals but cheaper than in US.

 

Mr. Raghu, a representative from US was here to participate in a program organized in the university on global recession and to invite vice chancellor of the university to the TANA meet to be conducted in July. He said that they were hoping to join at least 100 NRI students in different courses in JNTU-K in the present academic year 2009-10.
