Hyderabad, Sep 7th: The web based counseling for engineering seats in Eamcet turned controversial after students and parents alleged gross irregularities in seat allotments which were announced on Sunday. While several students who secured good ranks failed to get a seat, those who got ranks above 2 lakh were successful. However, the officials blamed the students for “mistake”. They said that while students could exercise over 3,000 options, they gave limited options restricting themselves to a few colleges. They could not be allotted a seat as a student with a better rank could have got it.
Students and parents protested in front of the AP State Council of Higher Education on Monday demanding the abolition of web-based counseling. The APSCHE chairman, Prof. K.C Reddy, said the new system was fool-proof. “The students who missed the seats gave wrong option. They opted for colleges based on last year’s seat allotment. Several seats in the convener quota came down due to rise in management quota seats. Also the priorities on colleges and courses change every year. We repeatedly urged the students to track these changes and give options according”, he said.
