The Disabled Welfare Department here on Friday observed International Day for the Disabled at Ambedkar Bhavan. Zilla Parishad Chairman, Mr. Ch. Venugopala Krishna, who was the chief guest of the program, distributed tri-cycles, wheelchairs and artificial limbs to 275 beneficiaries. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the State Government launched various welfare schemes for improving the living conditions of the disabled and he wanted the disabled to make better use of the schemes. Collector said that efforts were on to create awareness among the public against the practice of consanguineous marriages and the importance of prenatal care through short films. He observed that various service organizations too were coming forward to assist the disabled in the form of distributing artificial limbs and tri-cycles. Pithapuram MLA Smt. Vanga Geetha, Additional Joint Collector Mr. B. Rama Rao, Assistant Director of the Disabled Welfare Department Mr. K. Jeevan Babu and others were present.
