India Post to launch 'MO Videsh'

Hyderabad, Oct 14th: For the first time, people will be able to send remittances outside India with India Post, all set to launch 'MO Videsh' service in collaboration with Eurogiro in a month's time. Informing this to reporters here on Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Post Master General K V Sundar Rajan said the service would be launched in all head post offices. Eurogiro allows for both inward and outward international remittances, including cash remittances. With this, cash to cash transfers, cash to account transfers, account to cash transfers and account to account transfers would be available across countries, he said.

For the benefit of rural Railway passengers, India Post had tied up with the Railway Ministry for providing reservation services for booking the tickets, especially where Railways did not have a booking office. The service presently available in Hanamkonda head post office and Dwaraka Tirumala post office, would be extended to 400 more post offices in the state, he said. The department planned to augment India Post aircraft fleet to connect all the state capitals in phases to ensure faster delivery of mails, Mr Rajan added. Conceding to the popular demand, the department had decided to allow sending a message containing 50 characters along with Electronic Money Order(EMO) service as a free add-on facility, he said, adding customers could know the status of the EMO by sending an SMS to 55352.
