Rajahmundry, Dec 2nd: In view of the importance of sports and games, Andhra University has inaugurated the Inter-collegiate athletic meet-cum-selection for men and women in Rajahmundry on Monday. The program was inaugurated by AU Vice-chancellor Prof B. Satyanarayana.
Speaking on the occasion Vice-chancellor laid more stress on the promotion of sports and games in the country. He said that the university has given more importance to the games by giving 10 per fee concession for the students who excel in university tourneys. He also said that participation in sports and games will not only improve physical but also mental caliber.
Mayor Ms. A. Veera Raghavamma also participated in the occasion and has lit the sports torch. Speaking in the meeting held on the occasion she said that sports will inculcate discipline among the persons and asked all the education institutions to give priority to sports and games.
In this sports meet students from five districts are participating from 64 colleges. Separate events were arranged for men and women at a total of 57.
