Implementation of Anti-ragging law

Kakinada, July 16th: The East Godavari district collector, Mr. Gopalkrishna Dwivedi, sought the cooperation of managements of various colleges in the district for effective implementation of  anti-ragging law and implementing the guidelines issued by both the UGC and the Supreme Court. He also advised managements, to form college-level committees involving teachers and hostel wardens for effective implementation of these laws.

 

Mr. Dwivedi also advised members of these committees to regularly visit hostels including private hostels and apartment in which students stay, in additional to keeping a constant vigil on the activities of students in colleges. The collector wanted management representatives, including college principals to be more vigilant on the issue. The superintendent of police, Mr. Y. Nagireddy said that incidents of this kind should be informed to the concerned police station or to numbers 1090 (crime stopper) and 1091 (women’s protection cell) for action. He also revealed that in the previous academic year of 2008-09, three cases of ragging were booked in the district. The SP suggested taking written undertakings from seniors and juniors at the time of admission for effective control of this unlawful activity.
