Rajahmundry, Sep 2nd: The immersion of Ganesh idols in Godavari River passed off peacefully without any major incidents of violence during the procession from several centers here on Wednesday. The authorities made all arrangements by providing cranes and a punt to lift the idols and release it into the river water. Devotees in large number took Ganesh idols by firing crackers, beating the drums and chanting the slogan, Ganapathi Bappa Moriye.

A festival atmosphere prevailed all these days with Ganesh pandals set up at every street corner. Nearly 100 Ganesh idols were immersed in the river and the people celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety. The municipal corporation, revenue, fisheries and police authorities made elaborate arrangements at Isuka Ramp which is the designation place for taking the idols for immersion. Sanitation was maintained and even water packets were also distributed to the devotees. With an exception of a few stray cases, there were no reports of taking power unauthorizedly at Ganesh pandals.
