New Delhi, Dec 16th: The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will not scrap the computer-based test (CBT) for admissions, which were introduced this year but were marred by several glitches preventing hundreds of students from successfully completing their tests held from November 28 to December 8. The affected candidates will be given another chance next month.

However, the IIMs would review their contract with the US firm Prometric which had been assigned the task to conduct the tests, IIM Ahmedabad Director Samir Barua and IIM Bangalore director Pankaj Chandra, who are on the IIMs Management Board, told reporters here after their meeting with top officials of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.  About their meeting with the Ministry, chaired by Secretary Higher Education Vibha Pur, they said the Ministry was very supportive of the decisions taken by them.

They said scrapping the tests would not be fair to a large number of students, over two lakh approximately, who had successfully taken the test. But those who have been ''genuinely affected'' would be given a fair chance to take the examination again in the middle of January 2010. The IIM directors justified their decision to conduct the test online and its contract to Prometric, saying the decision was taken to evolve the test in accordance with global standards. They also said Prometric was chosen as it was a reputed firm with global experience in conducting such tests.
