Ice boxes given to fisherwomen

Kakinada, Mar 10th: Ice boxes of 100 litres capacity each were distributed to 300 fisherwomen of tsunami affected villages spread over to Kakinada rural, Uppada and Thallarevu mandals at a function held here on Wednesday. District Revenue officer S Venkatrao, the chief guest advised the fisherwomen to make best use of the boxes to improve their fish business and improve their living standards. Dr R Durgaraju, district secretary Indian red Cross society, who presided, said 2000 ice boxes were provided in the past by Spanish Red Cross under tsunami rehabilitation programe. Now another 500 boxes were received for distribution among the tsunami affected people. The fisheries department officials later demonstrated to the fisherwomen on the usage of the Ice boxes for preserving fish and to secure good market.
