Bhubaneswar, July 31st: Senior IAS officer Jagadanand Panda was found dead along with four members of his family with bullet injuries in the head. The bodies were found at Panda,s family home at Deogan in Orissa’s Bargarh district early on Friday. The police suspects that Panda shot himself after killing, his wife Surekha, 46, father Munshi, 75, and sisters Bijoylaxmi Mishra, 57, Kishori Das, 52. Sources said the IAS officer was upset due to a CBI investigation which has allegedly linked him to an emigration scam involving illegal human trafficking.
Mr. Panda was on deputation to the Center and was posted at the ministry of overseas Indian affairs in New Delhi as protector general of emigrants. According to the Bargarh’s superintendent of police Mr. Ashok Kumar Biswal, the evidences so far indicate that this might be a case of suicide and murder. All the deceased were shot from close range. The police recovered Panda’s service revolver. Panda’s son Swapneswar Panda alias Sonu, 22, who also sustained bullet injuries in his head, is now battling for life at the V.S.S Medical College Hospital at Burla. His condition was said to be serious.
