Vijayawada, Oct 22nd: Woman Grand Master Koneru Humpy on Thursday announced that she would not participate in the Asian Indoor Games to be held at Vietnam from October 30 to November 8. Speaking to the media Humpy said that she took the sudden decision due to some nasty situation created by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) Secretary D V Sundar.

Alleging that she was put under tremendous pressure and stress by Mr Sundar, Ms Humpy said she was upset over it and not in a state to participate in the prestigious event for the country. The Arjuna awardee said after confirming her participation in the Asian Indoor Games, she requested Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to allow her personal trainer, her father Koneru Ashok, who was Dronacharya awardee, to the event.

''The IOA responded favorably and asked me to get a letter from AICF. When I approached AICF, Sundar didn't respond,'' Humpy claimed and said when Ashok contacted the AICF Secretary and made a request, he refused and laid down some conditions. Later, Sundar bargained with Ashok that he would see that AICF bears his expenses if Humpy participates in all the forthcoming women tournaments for which she agreed, Humpy said.

She added that Sundar had not kept his promise and said in case Ashok accompanies her for the tournament, he has to bear his expenses. ''I do not want to make this an issue...as Asian Indoor Games meant playing for the country. My father decided to meet his own expenses and accompany me as my trainer, the Padmashree awardee said.
