The District police on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with different cases and recovered motorcycles from them, which estimated to cost about Rs. 24 lakhs. Addressing a press conference here, Superintendent of Police, Mr. G. Srinivas said Veluri John Raj (33) of Peddapuram and Ratnavat Saidulu (35) of Khammam charged with stealing a Skoda car estimated to cost about Rs. 16 lakh from Peddapuram in the month of June. He said John Raj was convicted in two murder cases and underwent imprisonment. He also involved in offences including attack on a lorry driver and cleaner at Annavaram, attack on a petty vendor at Peddapuram, stealing of oil tanker from Vijayawada-Guntupalli highway and stealing of a 10-tyre lorry from a petrol bunk at Ramavarappadu on the outskirts of Vijayawada in the last one year. Mr. Srinivas said Jeera Satyanarayana alias Sattibabu (30) of Rangampet was charged with stealing of 17 motorcycles from Peddapuram and 2 motorcycles from Eleswaram – all estimated to cost about Rs. 6 lakh. He advised the public to lock their motorcycles properly and park them in prominent places. In another case, the city police arrested Samanthakurru Durga Prasad (23) of Uppalaguptam and Pilli Kameswara Rao (23) of Indrapalem and recovered four motorcycles estimated to cost about Rs. 1.8 lakh from them. The Superintendent of Police presented cash awards to the police personnel who cracked the cases and recovered the property. Superintendent of Police (Admin) Mr. S.J. Janardhan, Deputy Superintendents of Police Mr. B. Lakshmi Narayana, Mr. Chandu Harshavardhan and others were present.
