Hyderabad, Aug 2nd: There is a huge demand for Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) streams in the ‘web-based Eamcet counseling’ which began in 50 centers across the state. While Mechanical and Civil Engineering streams come next in line, there were few takers for Information Technology and Computer Science Engineering courses. The Eamcet officials had launched ‘web-based counseling’ this year.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad is being opted by most students followed by the Osmania University College of Engineering. As per the statistics available, over 2 lakh options were exercised by students on the first day. The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, Prof K.C Reddy said that the options may cross over 3 lakh as there is chance till midnight.

Though the students have the option to choose colleges and courses online, they preferred to come to helpline centers set up by the officials in all the districts to give options. Meanwhile the Eamcet web-based counseling has been rescheduled in the wake of technical glitches. Officials of the department concerned decided to extend the deadline for giving the options on the web to August 25.
