Hike in rural RTC services

Ravulapalem, Sep 13th: Aiming to improve the connectivity among the villages located in Vijayawada and Vizianagaram zones, the APSRTC will press into more number of ordinary services popularly known as Palle Velugu shortly. The RTC executive director, Mr. G.V Ramana Rao, inspected the local depot and bus station here on Sunday. Later, speaking to newsman, he said that in the last two months, 30 new services were pressed into service in East Godavari by filling 190 driver and 258 conductor posts.

In wake of more number of staff either getting retired or getting promoted this year, the department is going to take up a recruitment drive on a large scale to provide opportunity to the youth to serve the RTC. Mr. Rao said that their main objective was to reduce the maintenance expenditure and improve the income to the corporation. Referring to the amenities provided at the RTC bus stations, the executive director said that they were taking up construction of Sulabh complex at a cost of Rs 6.50 lakh bus station and added that this could be handed over for maintenance to private parties which would collect nominal amount for its usage from the commuters.
