Kakinada, Dec 8th: High beam head lights have emerged as major irritants for road users in East Godavari district, particularly on Kakinada and Rajahmundry. Though Transport Authority officials and traffic police are trying to control the problem by conducting raids and imposing fine, the situation remains the same and accident rate is increasing. According to Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials here, Act 105 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, insists only on deflection of lights.
As per the rule, the vehicle driver is expected to use high and low beams, especially when any motor vehicles approaches from opposite direction. But most road users fail to deflect light, causing accidents. In cities, most youth in the name of modernizing their bikes, try to replace the bulbs with imported halogen lights. This is also being citied as a major reason for accidents. Deputy transport commissioner of RTA, East Godavari region, M. Praveen Rao said that nearly 40 to 60 per cent of road accidents take place due to driving against high beam lights.
