The district administration had put on high alert in view of the continuous downpour that was pouring out the district for the last three days this Sunday. Joint Collector K. Sasidhar reviewed the situation with the officials of all departments. He said steps were being taken to decrease the loss and to prevent the occurrence of unpleasant incidents. He said all the 1,000 minor irrigation tanks in the district were overflowing due to the downpour. He asked the officials of irrigation revenue departments to take steps to strengthen the bunds and to prevent any sort of breakages. Officials of all the departments were asked to alert the people residing in low-lying areas and take steps to prevent the spread of diseases due to contaminated water. Speaking on this Mr.Sasidhar said that “As of now, there is no damage to the crop. However, if the downpour continued to be like this, there is every possibility of crop loss in the district,” He asked all the officials not to switch-off their mobile phones, as they were on emergency duty. The district registered a total rainfall of 2,870.8 mm on Sunday. In view of the downpour, the grievance cell program scheduled to be held on Monday got cancelled.
