Helpline to monitor SC, ST cases

Kakinada, July 12th: A helpline service is being set up to monitor SC, ST atrocity cases at the collectorate in East Godavari district. In addition to this the district administration will regularly monitor assistance being extended over the issue with active participation of both revenue and police officials. Participating in vigilance and monitoring committee meet on Sunday, district collector issued specific directions to officials concerned in dealing with atrocity cases. He reviewed the registering of cases under the ACT, mandal-wise and also reviewed compensation paid to the victims.

 

As a measure of effective propagation on the issue, Mr. Dwevedi revealed that in addition to using the weekly Palle Baata Program, the services of well organized NGO would also be utilized for this purpose. He revealed the details of cases booked in the last three years and compensation paid to the affected. The collector disclosed that out of 86 cases booked in 2009, 19 cases were found false and in the remaining 67 cases, necessary charge sheets were filed. Out of these cases, Rs 25,000 was paid to the victim as compensation in a single case, he said.
