New Delhi, June 19th: Complaints against ragging will now be a phone call away as the human resources development ministry has decided to launch a 24 hour anti ragging helpline. The same will be launched today by human resources development minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal, ahead of the start of the new academic session in colleges. Thought the helpline was earlier scheduled to start from June 15, it missed the deadline as the facility was not ready.

The national call center will enable the victims of ragging across the country to dial a toll-free number to register complaints. Education Consultancy India (EdCIL) was entrusted with the task of setting up the call center and UGC is supposed to monitor the helpline.

The helpline will have software which will pass on the message to the management of the educational institutions within 15 minutes of the complaint being filed. This will help the administration to come to the aid of the victim student in no time. The helpline will operate round the clock and the UGC will also inform about the toll-free number which can be passed on to the students for use.
