Hyderabad, Nov 20th: About 1.86 lakh students residing in BC welfare hostel across the state will be covered under a new medical insurance scheme from this year. Till now such a facility was available only for SC and ST students in social and tribal welfare hostels.
Under the scheme, the insurance firm will bear Rs 5,000 of the total medical expenditure incurred by the students. It will pay Rs 15,000 in case of an accident. “We have issued instructions to all the officials of district welfare department. They would inform students of the scheme and the procedures to be followed,” said Mr. S. Koteshwar Rao, director, BC welfare department. The department has entered into an agreement with the National Insurance Company Ltd to implement the scheme.
