Hyderabd, Dec 30th: The central government has called a meeting on Jan 5 with leaders of eight recognized political parties of Andhra Pradesh to discuss the Telangana issue and look at ways to break the logjam. Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday sent out the letters to the political parties. The home ministry issued a statement on Wednesday expressing satisfaction with the peaceful bandh in some districts of Andhra Pradesh. The eight political parties include Congress, Telugu Desam, Telangana Rastra Samithi, CPI, CPI (M), PRP, BJP and the MIM.
The situation in Andhra Pradesh worsened after Mr. Chidambaram's December 9 statement initiating the process on the formation of a Telangana state. Many leaders from other parts of AP tendered their resignations and joined protests against the bifurcation of the state. Following this the home minister in a statement on December 23 took note of the changed situation and suggested holding of widespread consultations on the issue.
