Kakinada, July 6th: With economic liberalization and globalization, there is need for the development of communication skills among students for better employment opportunities, both within the country and abroad. This need has encouraged college administrations to impart special training to students. A government college too has launched the training program in a big way. 1,850 students of the local P.R. Government degree and PG College have been trained. Three separate labs were started with UGC and state government aid at a total cost of Rs 58 lakh.
Computers and software equipment were installed in these labs to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills among students. In addition, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) study centre in the college was also authorized by the university to conduct a special communication skills development program for the students who enroll under distance education.
Dr M. Satyanarayana, principal of the college said that a software online learning and testing program was also put in to use for the students. He also said that they are also training outsiders who enroll themselves under the JKC (Jawahar Knowledge Centre) in the college.
