Kakinada, Dec 2nd: The development of non-conventional energy is likely to be affected in the state in a big way with the latest government orders. According to the sources, the GO is likely to affect the overall promotion of non-conventional energy in the state. Recently, the Union minister of new and renewable energy, Dr. Farroq Abdullah, announced a target of 20,000 mw power generation by effective utilization of solar energy by 2020 in the country.

Government has issued GO no 306 in 2004 for compulsory installation of these systems in multi-storied buildings. Though the order was issued in 2004, momentum was picked up in 2006 in East Godavari. In the last four years, the NEDCAP, East Godavari unit registered 152 apartments in the district under this program and necessary clearance was given to 84 multi-storied building in Rajahmundry city, 66 in Kakinada city and one each in Amalapuram and Mandapeta municipalities.

The East Godavari unit NEDCAP executive engineer, Mr. G. Satyanarayana, said that the number of applications for clearance by builders had come down drastically in the last few months with GO No 281 coming into force from May 2008. He also felt that this order may affect the overall promotion of solar energy and energy under the non-conventional process.
