Girl tests positive for swineflu

Hyderabad, Aug 5th: A 13 year old girl was tested positive for swine flu on Wednesday taking the total number of infected cases in the state to 68. The girl was a resident of Hyderabad and contracted the flu from her father who had earlier tested positive. He was treated at Chest Hospital, Erragadda. According to the nodal center coordinator, Dr. K. Subhakar, the girl caught the infection from her father. Earlier, he and his son had tested positive. All other family members have been put on prophylactic treatment.

Health authorities began home quarantine system. As a result of the Pune swine flu death the hospital has been flooded with requests for tests. Persons without travel histories are also requesting for tests. The government has come up with new guidelines on treating swine flu suspects. According to the new guidelines, any person with symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, cold or running nose should go to a designated government facility for giving sample to test for the HINI virus.
