Hyderabad, June 30th: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections are likely to advance. The government is planning to conduct the same in the month of August before the start of the festival season. While the Ramzan begins on August 21 or 22, the 10 day Ganesh festival starts on August 23. In all likelihood the GHMC elections will be held on the second or third week of August. The GHMC has also advanced its pre-poll exercise and will complete it by July 13.
The state election commission will issue notification for the GHMC elections soon and it will take 28 days to conduct polling from the date of notification. Earlier the government has planned to conduct the elections in the month of September or October after the festivals. But the Majlis-e-ittehadul Muslimeen had submitted notice that polls should not be conducted during Ramzan. None of the opposition parties can level allegations against the government for advancing the elections as the High Court has directed that elections to the civic body should be conducted by the end of August.
