GHMC polling held peacefully

Hyderabad, Nov 23 : Barring few minor incidents of electoral malpractices in few divisions, polling was held in a peaceful way in all the 150 divisions in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which began at 0700 hrs yesterday. City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao told that there were no disturbance in polling in any division. The police had taken all precautionary measures to conduct the polling in peaceful manner. However, tense moments prevailed in some areas as the workers of various political parties allegedly resorted to distribution of money and liquor to lure the voters.


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Praja Rajyam Party President K Chiranjeevi and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu were among the early voters. The Chief Minister, casting his vote at Ameerpet, told mediapersons chill weather, perhaps, could be the reason for dull beginning. However, he expected the turnout to pick up as the day progressed. State Election Commissioner A V S Reddy, after exercising his franchise in Jubilee Hills, told mediapersons there were more complaints on distribution of money than liquor this time.
