Four died at Vizag multiplex

Visakhapatnam, June 21st: Four workers including a couple died when mud caved in at an under construction multiplex near the Jagadamba junction. The incident took place on Sunday when the laborers were working at the foundation site located 30 feet below the surface. Three other persons had a miraculous escape from the fate. The dead were identified as D. Suryanarayana of Nagarapalem, R. Mahandhata 23, his wife Eramma 21 and Sarada Laxmi, 40. All were from Jeedipalem near Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district.

 

An hour after the incident, fire service personnel retrieved the body of Suryanarayana and were looking for the other three. According to the sources, a ceiling made of steel was constructed to prevent caving in of the mud and other debris. This gave in, and as a result mounds of red mud fell on the workers. During the time of incident there were seven workers working at the site. While four of them got trapped in the mud and died, three managed to escape. The commissioner of police, the municipal commissioner and others rushed to the spot.
