Kakinada, Jan 24th: The sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a forest checking officer, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a timber depot owner at the office of Forest department here on Sunday. The ACB DSP, Mr. Sriramachandra Rao, told reporters here that K. Venugopala Rao, native of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari, runs a timber depot at Draksharamam in the district.

Before Sankranthi festival, the officer, K. Bhaskara Rao, raided the depot and seized the records from the shop. The officer collected Rs 10,000 as a fine from the depot owner and issued a notice too. However the officer asked the owner to collect the records from the office by paying a bribe of Rs 5,000. Then Venugopala Rao informed the matter to the ACB officials here.

According to the ACB directions, Venugopala Rao gave the money to the officer at the office here on Sunday morning. Soon the ACB officials nabbed the officer red-handed. He would be produced at the ACB court in Visakhapatnam.
