Five held, property recovered

Kakinada, Nov 23rd: Police arrested five persons involved in several thefts during Nakabandi here on Sunday and seized ornaments and vehicles worth nearly Rs 8 lakh from them. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, superintendent of police, Mr. Y. Nagi Reddy said that the accused were caught during vehicle checking operations at Muthyalamma temple at UK Rayapuram under Indrapalem police station limits at 11 am on Sunday.

On suspicion, police nabbed a person proceeding from Kakinada to Samalkota on a motorcycle and later identified him as P. Durga Prasad, one of the main accused in several theft cases registered in various police stations in the district, the SP said. After interrogating him, police took his four accomplishes including Ch. Paparao, M. Narendra, S. Suresh and Satyanarayana into custody and recovered Rs 5,85,000 worth gold ornaments, 2,220 grams silver ornaments and two motorcycles.
