Hyderabad, Oct 10th: Around 1500 contestants from all over the country would participate in the first-ever National Memory Championship 2009 to be held at Hitex on October 11. Talking to newspersons here today, Triple Guinness World record holder and National Memory Council of India Chairman Squadron Leader Jayasimha said the conduct of this championship itself is a world record as maximum number of contestants that took part in a National Memory Championship are 66 in England, whereas the Sunday's event would witness as many as 1500 contestants from all over the country at a stretch one time. The winner will get a cash prize of Rs one lakh, he added.

Mr Jayasimha said the event would have ten different competitions such as memorizing random words, random numbers, binary digits, spoken numbers, playing cards sequence and its location, historical dates and events, conversion from dates to day’s calendar, names and faces and abstract images. There will be 1000 points to be scored in each round. The person who scores overall maximum points would be declared as the winner.

Besides the winner, there are awards for top ten and toppers in each event. The top ten contestants would get to represent India in London at the world Memory Championship being held later this year, he added. Mr Jayasimha said the championship would encourage development of healthy mind and enhance memory and creativity.
