Samaikyandhra Activists observed the first day of their 72hrs general bandh in Andhra & Rayalaseema regions, against the decision of Congress to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
As a part of this, Yesterday, all the educational institutions, commercial establishments remained closed in Kakinada, as the activists called for shutdown in support of United Andhra.
The services of state-run Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) were suspended in some places by the activists. The protesters squatted on the roads and prevented the RTC buses from plying at different places in the city. The APSRTC has suspended its services at some places as a precautionary measure.
The supporters of united Andhra took out rallies and also organised other forms of protest during the day in the city. Students from schools & colleges, gathered at squares and blocked roads to protest against the Separate Telangana State decision. However, no major incident of violence was reported Yesterday.
A Large number of students, teachers employees, political supporters and others with support of Samaikyandhra JAC staged road blockades, disrupting traffic.
On other side, the Central Paramilitary forces in addition to the State Police have been deployed in large numbers in the district to ensure law and order is maintained, also in view of the third phase panchayat polls.
The bandh will continue for another 42hrs.
