Kakinada, March 19th: Aiming to encourage the meritorious students of economically backward classes, East Godavari District collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi has introduced Protsaham scheme to the poor students. Under this scheme collector provided financial assistance to two students on Wednesday. Financial assistance of Rs 21,000 was given to G. Maheswari, a student from Dowlaiswaram studying hindi pandit course and the other student Ch. Venkata Ramana who was admitted into Durga public school by him under the same scheme. He was provided with an amount of Rs 10,000.
Speaking to the media persons here on Wednesday collector revealed that in the present year nearly 600 merit students were admitted into various corporate colleges under Protsaham scheme. He said that from the next academic year the number will be restricted to 200. He called upon the funds from various organizations for the effective implementation of the scheme. Reliance Industries is extending Rs 1 crore every year for this scheme and the same is named as Dhirubhai Ambani Protsaham scheme. The motto of this scheme was to divert the merit students towards education and stopping them to discontinue studies due to poverty.
