Rajahmundry, June 26th: For the farmers who suffered crop damage or loss during the Kharif season last year due to natural calamities like the Godavari floods and cyclones, the government is going to give insurance to the tune of Rs 7 crores shortly in East Godavari district. Nearly 9,000 farmers enrolled themselves to avail the facility of insurance under this scheme. Based on the verifications and certain parameters the names of the farmers who claimed insurance was sent to government, recommending the payment of insurance.
Accordingly the government sanctioned Rs 7 crore to farmers in East Godavari. In west Godavari too the farmers faced problems relating to crop loss or damage. Several farmers failed to harvest in the last Kharif season as their agriculture fields were inundated by flood water. The affected farmers claimed insurance and government will sanction this.
The agricultural authorities are taking up awareness drives among farmers to enroll them in the National Crop Insurance Scheme for the Kharif season on the current year by paying premium before July 31. To enroll the names in the insurance scheme, the farmers need to submit details pertaining to the total area of crop they are taking up for cultivation for the Kharif.
